Central Texas participates in nation-wide #clapbecausewecare to show support

Thousands of people across the United States are showing their support to essential workers during the pandemic.

TEMPLE, Texas — Every day, thousands of people, including healthcare workers, first responders and grocery store employees, put their own health and safety at risk to make sure the community is taken care of.

Across the United States, people are using the #clapbecausewecare, to show the men and women at the front lines their appreciation. How it works is for one full minute at a specific time (determined by that city of a group) people will stand outside their homes or place of work and clap.

Temple city officials saw this on social media and wanted to participate.

"We saw other cities doing it and we thought this would be a good thing for our community to rally around," Temple PIO Cody Weems said.

The city sent out a memo to the community that said on Tuesdays, starting April 7, they would take a minute to clap at 7 p.m.

People across Bell County got word of the movement and participated.

"I think something like this will show these people who are working long hours and overtime that we are behind them," Weems said. "We will support them for however long this lasts."

We encourage everyone from across our viewing area to participate in this movement every Tuesday at 7 p.m. using the #clapbecausewecare.
