TEMPLE, Texas — With potential rainstorms coming over the next few days and colder weather becoming more common in Central Texas, windshields are susceptible to fogging up. Learn about the steps to defog your windshield as well as the reason your windshield could be covered by fog.
What to do
Fog on the windshield could happen inside or outside of your car. If it happens, you can turn the AC dial to max power and set the temperature as close as possible to the outside. The similar temperature plus the pressure on the window may clear away fog, according to automotive sites. This step can be applied for fog inside and outside a vehicle.
Another way to reduce fog on your windshield is to open driver- and passenger-side windows. Air escapes from the inside, thereby building less condensation on window surfaces. Additionally, make sure ventilation pathways are uncovered.
Poor airflow or a blocked defroster can prevent moisture from being effectively cleared.
Precautionary measures like cleaning your windshield on a common basis or applying defogging sprays is also helpful.
Why does your windshield fog?
Windshields can fog if the temperature outside is radically different than the temperature inside your car. Heavy rain alongside warm weather could lead to rising humidity. If your car is cold, then fog may occur. The reverse is true as well. A warm car in frigid temperatures may see fog on the windshield under the right conditions.
Dust, oils, and residues can attract moisture and make fogging more likely.
It's important to be aware of the upcoming weather and be prepared as the calendar flips to the winter months.
