TEMPLE, Texas — It's been just over three months since a destructive tornado and severe storms left their mark on the Temple community and if you drive through some of the neighborhoods that took the brunt of the storm, you can see the impact families are still dealing with.
Progress has been made in the Westfield subdivision, and one contractor estimates the neighborhood is about 70 percent back to normal.
"Still a lot of homes being worked on, but we've had at least fifty different contract companies in here trying to help, so it is excellent turn out from the community and the general region," said Mark Temple with Texas HomePro, a roofing and rebuilding company.
There are a couple properties in the neighborhood that are just slabs now, as they have already been bulldozed.
Other homes sit empty, abandoned and even have overgrown yards. You'll also notice many homes have City of Temple notices or permits in windows, too.
The neighborhood still contains many homes that are missing roofs, are collapsed in or have windows boarded up.
Temple said homeowners he has worked with in the Westfield subdivision are understanding and patiently waiting to get back into their homes.
"They know it takes a lot," Temple added. "They know there's a bunch of steps we have to do. There's a bunch of checks that have to be conducted in order to do the work properly. The insurance companies have been great working with these families that I know of. I haven't heard any bad things, so everything is going as best as possible from what I see."
However, there were some contractors that told 6 News there have been some damaged properties that are being left untouched because insurance companies have been making it difficult.
Temple added that the area has come a long way, and it has lifted his spirits to see the community come together to rebuild.
