Tornado watch issued for several northern Central Texas counties

The tornado watches are effective until 10 a.m. Monday.

TEMPLE, Texas — Tornado watches were issued for several counties in the northern region of Central Texas Sunday evening. 

The National Weather Service issued watches for Bell, Bosque, Hill, Hamilton, Navarro, Comanche, Hamilton, Ellis, Comanche, Hood, Somervell and Erath counties at 7 p.m.

NWS said the watches would be in effect until 10 a.m. Monday.

A severe line of storms swept east along a cold front. The strongest parts of the line cut across the northern section, where there was more frequent lightning. Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph are top the threats.

The watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather, and storms could be developing soon if they are not already developing.

Possible threats that come with the watch include damaging winds, hail and possibly a few tornadoes.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Bosque, Hill, Limestone, and Mclennan counties until 3 a.m. 

A severe line of storms moving east around 55 mph is capable of producing damaging wind gust up to 60 mph. 

Stay indoors and away from windows.
