TEMPLE, Texas — Freezing temperatures are just days away in Central Texas. This is why Steven Bailey, owner and operator of HVAC company Dad's Thermostat, is giving tips on how to protect your home from damage.
As we've seen, Texas is not immune to winter storms and cold weather. But there are some easy things people who live in a house, townhouse, apartment or any building can do to save money and protect their home.
"Lower the temperature setting if you could. In the winter, and ideal temperature setting would be around 68 degrees. I know some people don't like it that low but if you could get that low and sort of deal with that temperature, that would be great," Bailey explained.
Doing so will keep your pipes from freeze damage, he said.
In addition to that, simply opening your cabinet doors in your kitchen, bathroom, and any other place with closed in pipes is another preventative measure.
"Open those cabinets because it allows warm air to flow in the air as well to keep those pipes from freezing and bursting," he said.
The Texas Department of Insurance provided more tips to protect your pipes from severe damage.
