TEMPLE, Texas — A Flash Flood Warning for Brazos and Grimes Counties expired at 8:45 p.m.
A Flood Watch is in effect until Friday morning with some areas likely receiving 2-3+ inches of rain Thursday.
The Watch has been issued through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is valid until 5 p.m. for the counties shaded in dark yellow in the map below. Quarter-sized hail and winds gusting to 60 mph for the counties shaded in light yellow. These storms are moving east.
Central Texas is under a MODERATE (3 out of 5) risk for severe weather on Thursday, May 16, with the possibility of heavy rains making flooding likely across the area, with an isolated threat of hail and damaging wind possible as well. There is a low chance of isolated tornadoes Thursday embedded within thunderstorms.
Rain is ongoing this morning, but widespread coverage and the strongest rain and storms are expected to move in in the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, a watch is issued when conditions are favorable for a specific hazardous weather event to occur. A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible.
A Flash Flood Warning means a flash flood is imminent or occurring.
