TEMPLE, Texas — As storms and baseball-sized hail swept across Central Texas on April 26, many Texans faced damage to their homes and vehicles. In order to help residents recover from the storm, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is asking Texans to report all property damage using their damage survey.
“Reporting storm damage is a critical step to helping Texas communities recover from this severe weather,” said Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd. “I encourage all Texans whose properties are affected by this week’s storms to submit damage information through our online reporting tool at damage.tdem.texas.gov.”
Texans are encouraged to self-submit damages sustained to homes and businesses during the storms using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) damage survey by clicking "Severe Weather April 26- Ongoing".
The survey can be filled out in both English and Spanish, with tutorial videos available in both languages here.
The Division says the information gained from the survey helps officials understand the extent of the damages and determine if the state meets federal requirements for disaster assistance, as well as identify any urgent resource needs.
Governor Greg Abbott directed TDEM to activate state emergency response resources ahead of the April 26 storms and increase the readiness level of the State Emergency Operations Center in anticipation of the severe weather.
Those emergency resources will remain deployed as further severe weather is expected in the state in the following days, including severe thunderstorms, damaging hail and winds and possible tornados.
TDEM encourages Texans to stay prepared and informed, monitor local weather reports and heed warnings from local officials.
Severe weather safety information can be found at texasready.gov.
