McGregor sees storm damage, power outages Friday night

The area reported damage caused by Friday evening's storms, such as downed power lines and downed trees.

MCGREGOR, Texas — Over 1,800 Oncor customers living in McGregor were initially without power Friday evening following a squall of storms that passed through and caused a bit of damage for the area.

As of 10:30 p.m., a little over 200 customers remained without power.

Van Smith with the McGregor Emergency Management told 6 News that a total of 60 homes had downed trees in their yards due to the storm. Smith added that several homes had roof damage, including half of the roof at an apartment complex with the McGregor Housing Authority.

McGregor's fire department closed off Bluebonnet Parkway due to storm damage at McGregor ISD. Per Smith, 10- to- 15 power poles (a mile-wide worth of power poles) fell down on the street. The high school's football scoreboard also toppled over from strong wind gusts, Smith said.

Smith added that McGregor ISD buses and school properties were damaged, but didn't provide details about the damage.

Overall, storm damage for the area covered six-blocks wide and 15-blocks long, Smith said.
