TEMPLE, Texas — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is ready to help storm victims in Central Texas.
They launched a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on Wednesday, June 12 at Tarver Elementary school in Temple.
FEMA has $102 million in grants to help storm victims throughout the state of Texas.
"It's money that does not need to be repaid," FEMA Media Relations Specialist, La-Tanga Hopes, said. "Further, if you're on a fixed income and you receive income from some other type of governmental agency, there is no blowback with applying with FEMA."
FEMA is offering assistance to home owners and renters both insured and uninsured.
Grant money can be used for basic home and car repairs, medical expenses, hotel rooms and more.
"If you need new clothing because your clothing's messed up," Hopes said. "If you need personal hygiene, if the baby needs items."
FEMA also has a Serious Needs Assistance program for people with no money or resources.
"It's about $750," Hopes said. "It's not a lot, but we will expedite that process."
You can fill out an application in person at Tarver Elementary.
You'll need to bring your ID and social security.
They will need a bank account, so grant funds can go into your account.
For approval, FEMA says you'll need to verify that it's your home or your property that's been damaged.
You will also need to verify that you live there.
Lastly, you need to be able to share images or itemize details about your loss.
FEMA hopes you'll take advantage of this opportunity, just like William Hornsby, a Rosebud homeowner, did.
"This is a service to the citizens of the United States provided by our government through our taxes," Hornsby said. "It's there for us to use in these times of emergency. Come and get the help you need."
The center is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week.
FEMA says you must get your application in by July 16. Once approved, people could receive funding within a matter of days,
FEMA is also warning people about scammers. Remember the organization will never ask for money.
