WACO, Texas — Waco home owners are concerned about excessive flooding in their neighborhood when rainfall comes.
Monique Duquette lives on Sunrise Lane and says the flooding has been a problem since 2021.
"We get the heavy rain and when it rains heavy, we get water excessive water flow from the McGregor side behind our property, and so it comes alongside our property," Duquette said. "It's just a heavy flow. It's like a rushing river."
Duquette and her husband have already replaced their fence. They have tried to put their own metal barriers in, but the water rushes so fast that doesn't do the trick.
The water flows fast and typically goes into their yard.
"I have a structure, a shed, it’s now coming up to that," Duquette said. "We have pool equipment that it floods. I'm afraid of the potential damage that it’s going to do because it keeps happening."
Duquette has reached out to the City of Waco about her concerns.
"I just kind of get the runaround,' Duquette said. "You know, 'We're working on it. We're doing this. People will come out'. They never actually do anything. That's been for three years now. It's been really frustrating and it's affecting now our personal property in our yard."
Duquette says she is constantly stressed when it rains because she doesn't know what could happen next.
"I feel like I've been patient long enough," Duquette said. "I want action. I'm here for action. It's been three years and like I said the potential damage to our property. My safety zone is at risk now. So it's very upsetting."
