ROSEBUD, Texas — After severe thunderstorms took over parts of Central Texas on Saturday evening, residents in Rosebud are left to clean up the damage.
Trees fell onto some structures and homes in the area. Debris can also be seen scattered across town.
Rosebud resident Kerney Pipkin says the storm came almost as a surprise and no one thought it would cause so much damage.
"A lot of carports, sheds, garages, you name it," Pipkin explained. "If it's barely in the ground, it came up."
Rosebud Public Works and Volunteer Fire Department worked throughout the town Sunday to asses the damage and clear the streets.
Rosebud VFD Chief Caleb Miller says the storm came and went fast and hit a large part Rosebud.
"I live about two miles out of town and no damage there. It was really bad in East Rosebud. The old Chevy dealership got hit pretty hard and Dairy Queen too," Miller shared.
Dairy Queen has some of the most visible damage and was forced to close their store until at least Wednesday.
"It was shattered the glass. The inside was damaged and all this stuff was damaged. It even damaged one of the employees dad's car," Dairy Queen Assistant Manager Grace Downs explained.
Still, the community has banned together to help city officials with the clean up. Miller says helping each other in a small community like this is nothing new.
"Rosebud is a pretty tightknit community here. A couple of years ago we had the ice storm, and everybody banded together and helped clean everybody's yards," Miller said.
Miller went on to say the clean up process could take between days or weeks to be fully finished across town.
