Local plumbers receiving hundreds of burst pipe calls

Since the arctic freeze, local plumbers have been working sun up to sun down answering calls to fix frozen/burst pipes.

TEMPLE, Texas — The freezing temperatures may be behind us, but now Central Texas plumbers are left to clean up the burst pipe disasters in apartments and homes.

Temple location Roto-Rooter Plumbing owner Mike Jensen says they been getting more calls than during the winter storm Texas was hit by in 2021.

'I would say on a normal day, we do maybe 30 calls. We're over 120 at this time," Jensen shared.

Roto-Rooter has a total of 10 service vans that take calls for Killeen, Temple, and Belton customers. Jensen says each van averages at least 10 calls each day crews are out from morning to night.

One big issue he says they're seeing is people unknowingly having multiple burst pipes because their pipes are still frozen.

"For example, they only see one and we'll fix that one. But then the system gets pressurized again and it pops another leak in a weak area that froze but maybe didn't split right. We've had a quite a few of those multiple leak calls," said Jensen.

One of the earliest signs of a frozen pipe is little to no flow out of your faucet, shower, or toilet.

The cost to get your pipes fixed can vary in range from $160 to $600, depending on the situation.

As temperatures are warming up, Jensen is expecting business to slow down a bit before the New Year.

Plumbers are asking customers for patience at this time as they are working to get every issue resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible.
