KILLEEN, Texas — The City of Killeen announced it would open the Moss Rose Center beginning Tuesday night as a warming center.
The city said it partnered with the Killeen Housing Authority and other community partners to keep the center open until Friday morning.
According to the 6 News Weather Team, temperatures were expected to be at or below freezing in the early morning hours until Friday morning.
The Moss Rose Center is at 103 East Ave. E. It will open from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. each day. The city said they will serve dinner. If no one uses it, the center will close by 11:30 p.m.
The center does not offer full shelter services but rather a place to get out of the cold. Beds and showers will not be available, according to the city.
The center will accept donations of food in its original packaging and blankets that are brand new, odor free and in the original packaging. The city said to call 254-327-1164 extension 13 to see what is needed.
They won't accept new or gently used toys, clothing, stuffed animals, bedding or candy, gift-wrapped items or any medical supplies or equipment.
