City of Waco installing aesthetic rail panels on 4th/5th St. overpass at I-35

The City said the goal of the panels is to prevent "unsafe vehicle travel" and stop people from parking in prohibited areas.

WACO, Texas — TxDOT crews are set to begin installing aesthetic rail panels underneath the 4th/5th St. overpass at I-35 in Waco this March, according to the Texas Department of Transportation-Waco District.

According to the City, the installation is scheduled to begin Monday, March 19, and is expected to last until the end of April.

The panels will "enhance pedestrian safety", said TxDOT, and help prevent vehicles from entering the "no parking" zone.

The panels will reportedly run from each end of the landscaped areas on the frontage roads with the intent of "preventing unsafe vehicle travel" and parking on the 4th/5th St. median.

Pedestrian, bicycle and scooter access will be maintained during and after the installation, said TxDOT.

“The City of Waco recognizes the priority of safeguarding this space and is thankful for TxDOT making this a priority for our pedestrians and users," said City of Waco Public Information Officer Monica Sedelmeier.

Weather permitting, TxDOT said the project is expected to be completed around the end of April.
