TxDOT proposing improvements to nine miles of US 190 in Bell County to accommodate I-14 extension

Right now, it's two lanes in each direction, and TxDOT's project would keep those and also add frontage roads.

ROGERS, Texas — Bell County residents got to share their comments and concerns on July 11 about a massive interstate project that's set to start construction in 2030.

The proposed project is focused on making improvements between State Highway 95 in Temple to Business 190 in Rogers, a stretch of nine miles.

Right now, it's two lanes in each direction, and TxDOT's project would keep those and also add frontage roads.

Frequent travelers support the changes being proposed.

"It's just progress, right?" said Grant Ruthven. "There's been a lot more traffic and it's been dangerous over the last 20 years I say. It's always good when things are improved."

Meanwhile, there are some who are indifferent about the proposal and are worried about the potential impacts.

"It actually will cause our farmland to be non-ag exempt and we can't farm it any longer," said Cyndi Kruedelvash. "It's frustrating because we bought this land for farming and they've already taken some of our land."

Kruedelvash, Ruthven and dozens of others left comments for TxDOT to review. Jake Smith with TxDOT said stakeholder input is a priority.

"We are still in a critical component of the process, which is eliciting that feedback from the community and in part of delivering the best project for the community," Smith explained.

TxDOT is taking comment on this segment of the project until July 26. You can send comments by mail by sending it to:
