Section of 24th Street overpass in Temple to close starting Aug. 23

The city says a diversion created for the construction work will start on Aug. 23 and run through May 18, 2025.

TEMPLE, Texas — A stretch of the 24th Street overpass in Temple will be closed so crews can begin a project for pedestrians in the city.

The stretch of 24th Street that will be closed is between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and East Avenue N, according to a traffic advisory from the city, and is a part of the city's pedestrian improvement project.

A detour for drivers will be available and will direct traffic southbound on 24th Street to East Avenue H before going further south onto Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Northbound traffic on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will follow a detour to East Avenue H, turning east and then back to the Crestview Neighborhood.

The detour will be put in place starting on Friday, Aug. 23. The city says the detour will be in place through May 18, 2025.

Drivers navigating the area are advised to be cautious and to pay attention to all traffic control devices. Those with inquiries about the project are urged to contact the City of Temple's Engineering Department at 254-298-5660.
