TEMPLE, Texas — Heads up Temple drivers. Starting Monday, construction is set to begin on Phase Three of the City of Temple's North Outer Loop project, causing various closures along Moores Mill Road.
"The overall goal is to increase capacity and the overall connectivity around Temple, so this project is going to create a new major arterial loop around Temple," said Charlese Butler, City of Temple spokesperson.
The Outer Loop Project is planned to connect Interstate 35 in North and South Temple and improve mobility on the West Side, the city said in a release.
The main project is broken up into North and West projects and will reportedly create a four-lane road with a raised median, bike lanes and pedestrian trails, the city added.
Phase three of the project will reportedly widen and realign Moores Mill Road from a two-lane rural road to a four-lane divided arterial with shared-use paths and drainage improvements to include an elevated bridge structure at the BNSF railroad crossing.
Moores Mill Road closures:
- Starting on the east side of Brewster Road to the east side of the BNSF railroad crossing will be closed due to bridge construction
Moores Mill Road openings:
- From Wendland Road to Brewster Road will reportedly remain open while the southbound and eastbound lanes of are under construction
- The remainder of the road from the east side of the BNSF railroad crossing to Pegasus Drive will remain open for resident access, but not through traffic.
The City of Temple says construction is approximated to last until October 2025.
"To the residents that have to travel those areas and kind of have those difficulties, just know the City of Temple is working their hardest to complete these projects and to the best of their ability, and we hope to see those projects come to life soon," Butler said.
Anyone with questions or feedback about the project can contact the City of Temple Engineering Department at 254-298-5660.
