KILLEEN, Texas — The City of Killeen has approved and installed a higher speed limit sign on Rosewood Drive.
At the Killeen City Council meeting on Dec. 13, councilmembers unanimously decided to increase the speed limit from 35 to 45 miles per hour.
A traffic study on Rosewood Drive was completed by Kimley-Horn and Associates engineering firm.
The study showed that 80% of drivers on Rosewood Drive were already traveling safely above 40 miles per hour.
Kimley-Horn and Associates recommended that the speed limit be increased to 45 miles per hour.
Killeen City Manager, Kent Cagle, states "One of the greatest creators of accidents is when you have a speed limit set too low. People drive the speed they feel comfortable at, and you have people trying to drive the speed limit. When you have too much variation in speed, that creates more accidents than anything."
