WACO, Texas — For the 16th year in a row, the Waco Transit System (WTS) is offering free rides to and from New Year's destinations in Waco through "Safe Ride Home," an initiative to combat drunk driving.

In a news release, WTS it is partnering with Two King to offer the program between the hours of 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. on New Year's Eve to New Year's Day.

“Our goal is simple… to keep the streets of Waco safe on New Year’s Eve. If even one life is spared because someone chose to secure a safe ride home, then our purpose was accomplished. We have vehicles available and drivers willing to give up their holiday," the City of Waco said in a news release.

Reservations are preferred, but the city said same-day requests are also accepted based on availability. Group bookings are available, but groups need to be picked up and dropped off at the same location, the city said.

If you'd like to use the service, call 254-750-1620 to schedule your free ride.

Tow King is also offering a free-vehicle tow by calling 254-666-5484.

"The idea behind 'Safe Ride Home' is to support responsible drinking and, ultimately, save lives," the city said. "This has been a very successful program that WTS offers annually as a free service to the community."
