WACO, Texas — Belton residents can expect their daily commute to be a little different on Friday. The Waco District of the Texas Department of Transportation will perform main lane closures on I-35 as work continues in Belton on Friday.
Friday, Aug. 27, crews will be performing various lane closures on the inside and outside main lanes of I-35 on both north and southbound in Belton, according to a press release. Only the middle lanes in both directions will be open for use.
Drivers can expect delays in the area.
All closures in both directions will be from SL 121 to Central Ave. and will begin at 9 a.m. with the expectation of reopening at 3 p.m. that afternoon.
The closures will allow crews to safely install rumble strips within the project limits.
The northbound on-ramp closures will include SL121 and Holland Rd., as well as the I-14 eastbound Frontage Road.
Additionally, I-14 eastbound as it approaches I-35 will be closed with traffic directed to exit Connell St.
The Central Ave. exit will be unavailable for use during this closure.
Southbound closures begin Thursday night and will include exit ramps from TX-317, I-14, and SL 121 with traffic being redirected to utilize the Central Ave. exit.
Additionally, the on-ramps to 6th and Central Avenues will be closed.
All closures are dependent on weather, field conditions, and work progress.
TxDOT encourages all motorists to be safe and drive smart in work zones: slow down, pay attention, eliminate all distractions, and watch for road crews.
