Motorcyclist killed on I-14 identified as 31-year-old Copperas Cove man

According to the Texas Department as Negron was being assisted out of the roadway by his wife, a Toyota Camry crashed into him.

KILLEEN, Texas — Person in motorcycle accident on I-14, near Clear Creek Road in Killeen has now been identified, according to Sergeant Bryan Washko with the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

The deceased individual was identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Emill Vergne-Negron, of Copperas Cove.

The fatal incident occurred just after 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. DPS said a motorcyclist stood up on his motorcycle, lost control and fell off. 

According to DPS, Negron’s wife was following him as he crashed and stopped to help him. As Negron was being assisted out of the roadway by his wife, a Toyota Camry, operated by a 32-year-old male from Copperas Cove, was approaching the crash scene. While trying to avoid colliding, the driver of the Toyota crashed into Negron.

Negron was struck by the Toyota and died on the scene.

For hours, the interstate roadway was congested for commuters. But DPS said roads are now clear and traffic is flowing as normal in the area. 

Next of kin are being notified.
