KILLEEN, Texas — A 63-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a car along Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Killeen, said the Killeen Police Department.
The department said officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of E. Veterans Memorial Blvd around 2:42 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 for a crash involving a pedestrian.
Deputies with the Bell County Constable's Office were reportedly the first to arrive and found a woman lying in the roadway. KPD said deputies started first aid until paramedics arrived.
According to police, the preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian was trying to cross northbound on Veterans Memorial Boulevard when a red Chevrolet pickup truck traveling eastbound in the inside lane hit her.
Police said the woman died of her injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
Eastbound Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Killeen is shut down due to the crash, said police. According to police, the road is shut down from WS Young Drive to Hillside Drive.
Police are asking drivers to avoid the area or take an alternate route at this time.
KPD said the Traffic Unit is currently investigating. No further information has been given at this time.
