CORYELL COUNTY, Texas — A man is dead in a two-vehicle crash that took place in Coryell County Thursday morning.
According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, that morning a male driver in a 2015 GMC Acadia was traveling southbound on FM 116 and left the lane he was driving in, crossing into the road going the opposite way. A driver in a 2020 Nissan Altima that was headed the opposite way of the GMC was hit head-on and received "extensive damage."
Manuel Moreno, of Copperas Cove, who was also the driver of the Nissan, was killed in the collision and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bill Price. DPS says next of kind has been notified and the 34-year-old driver of the GMC, also from Copperas Cove, was taken to the hospital for "non-incapacitating injuries."
The road has since reopened, according to the Coryell County Sheriff's Office and Copperas Cove Fire Department.
DPS says that after an investigation into the crash, evidence was discovered that the GMC driver was driving "impaired." Officials say an investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
