City of Troy temporarily opens Troy High School parking lot for detour

Since the parking lot has been closed, a nearly two-mile detour has been a headache for drivers and a concern for emergency response times for residents.

TROY, Texas — The north entrance to the Troy High School parking lot will be open this weekend to allow for a detour, according to the City of Troy.

The City said access to the lot near the Trojan Car Wash opened at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 and will be open until 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5.

Construction along W. Main Street in Troy has caused frustration from residents, many of whom have used the parking lot as a detour. The City announced the parking lot would no longer serve as a detour on July 29, saying the closure was necessary to protect students who are on campus preparing for the upcoming semester.

Since the parking lot has been closed, residents have had to take a nearly two-mile detour around the area instead.

"We are very appreciative of TISD for allowing vehicles to travel through the private property parking lot to support local businesses and citizens travelling in the area during the weekend," The City of Troy said in a post on social media.

After access closes on Aug. 5, the City says it will not reopen until West Main Street is opened to traffic, which is expected to happen around Aug. 13.

More information on the construction can be found at this link. A full interview with Troy City Manager Gary Smith about the construction can be seen in the video below.
