City of Temple to close down Poison Oak Road for realignment project

TEMPLE, Texas — A heads up for Temple drivers, beginning on April 24, a portion of Poison Oak Road will be closed for a Realignment project, according to the City of Temple.

The City said the date will mark the beginning of Phase 1 of the Poison Oak Road Realignment project. They said the portion of Poison Oak Road from SH 317 to the east side of Charter Oak Elementary will be closed for an estimated 18 months.

According to the City, improvements to the road will include widening the current pavement section to a four-lane roadway with a raised median and creating a new 10-foot sidewalk.

The City released a map of where the road work will be and a detour route, which can be seen below.

Residents who have questions about the project are encouraged to contact the City of Temple Engineering Department at 254-298-5660. Questions specifically regarding the traffic plan for Charter Oak Elementary School should contact Belton Independent School District.
