Man arrested for driving into tree while intoxicated in accident that killed one, injured four in Bellmead

Alfonso Estrada-Salinas, 34, of Waco is being charged with felony intoxication assault and intoxication manslaughter.

BELLMEAD, Texas — One person is dead and multiple others were injured in a crash Thursday evening in Bellmead, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Around 7:15 p.m. that evening, a crash involving a GMC Sierra was reported on Katy Lane near Preston Lane. DPS says the driver went through a curve too quickly and ended up veering off the road and hitting a tree.

One of the passengers, Eduardo Soto Salaices, 20, of Durango, Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say next of kin has been notified.

Three others were taken to Baylor Scott and White in Waco for non-life threatening injuries, while one was taken to the same hospital in critical condition.

DPS says the crash involved a man that was under the influence of alcohol. Alfonso Estrada-Salinas, 34, of Waco, is being charged with felony intoxication assault and intoxication manslaughter.

DPS says an investigation into the accident is active and ongoing.
