Bellmead Police investigating alcohol-related crash that killed a 67-year-old bicyclist

The man that was killed has been identified as Dennis Welch, who died after being hit on Sunday, July 14.

BELLMEAD, Texas — Three people were arrested in an alcohol-related crash in Bellmead that resulted in the death of a 67-year-old bicyclist, according to Bellmead Police.

On Sunday, July 14, police say a crash involving a 14-year-old that was behind the wheel resulted in the death of Dennis Welch, 67. The 14-year-old, whose name was not released, had a 10-year-old passenger in the car at the time of the crash. The 14-year-old was taken into custody and charged, according to police.

As police continued to investigate the crash, they arrested two other suspects, both from Bellmead. 

Erika Ramirez Martinez, 40, was arrested and charged with two counts of Endangering a Child and one count of Criminally Negligent Homicide. All of Martinez's charges are State Jail Felonies,  according to Bellmead PD. The other individual that was arrested was Lisett Andrea Najera, 22. She was charged with Contributing Alcohol to a Minor, a Class A misdemeanor.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident and also extend their condolences to the family of Dennis Welch.
