DPS identifies victims killed in deadly Lampasas crash

DPS believes the crash was caused by a tire blowing out on one of the involved vehicles.

LAMPASAS, Texas — Texas DPS has reported that five people died in a multi-fatal crash on US 281 in Lampasas County on Aug. 14.

DPS reported the crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 near milepost 406.

According to DPS, a 2004 Cadillac CTS driven by 31-year-old Jacinto Gudino Duran of Copperas Cove was driving south on US 281 when the right rear tire is believed to have blown out.

Witnesses reportedly told DPS the Cadillac had passed them at a "very high rate of speed".

The blowout caused the vehicle to lose control, entering into a side skid and crossing into the northbound lanes and into the path of an oncoming vehicle, said DPS.

The other vehicle, a Kia Telluride driven by 45-year-old Mani Arvind, hit the passenger side of the Cadillac in the inside northbound lane, causing "extensive damage" to both vehicles, according to DPS.

23-year-old, Yosilu Gasman Martinez-Lopez of Copperas Cove was also in the Cadillac, said DPS, and two passengers, 40-year-old Pradeepa Arvind and 17-year-old Andril Arvind, were in the Kia.

All five people involved in the crash died on the scene, said DPS. Next of kin have reportedly been notified.
