TEMPLE, Texas — Central Texas is getting a little greener.
Revol Greens has chosen Temple to debut the world’s single-largest controlled environment agriculture (CEA) lettuce facility ever built.
Company CEO Michael Wainscott explained why Temple is the best place for the company to grow.
"Not only does Temple have a great community, but the city is nearby so many other cities that we'll be able to distribute to and provide them with fresh greens faster," Wainscott explained.
The Revol Greens facility is 20 acres wide. It has state-of-the-art technology which includes artificial intelligence tools to monitor and adjust climate control, irrigation and energy management for maximum output and efficiency 365 days a year.
"The drought hasn't affected us too bad at all," Wainscott shared. "What's so great about one of these facilities is really the water that leaves is in the plants itself. That's the primary side of where the water leaves out of compared to an outdoor facility."
The new facility is expected to create 130 jobs in the Temple, TX area while also significantly expanding Revol Green’s distribution in Texas and the central and southern United States.
With the addition of the Temple facility, Revol Greens now reaches over 70 percent of the United States market when combined with its existing operations in Owatonna, MN, Athens, GA, and Tehachapi, CA.
Revol Greens has secured distribution partnerships with H-E-B, Sprouts, Costco, Walmart, Kroger, Target, United Supermarkets and Amazon Fresh.
"Being a part of the community and being able to have folks that work in the community, supply the community, and being able to see the products on the shelves that we do locally and that we provide it is just super exciting," Wainscott said.
The facility is still under construction and Wainscott said they should be fully finished in six to nine months.
