LAS VEGAS — Whitehouse native Patrick Mahomes broke an NFL record after surpassing 30,000 career passing yards Sunday, in the Kansas City Chiefs 27-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
"I didn't even know about that until after the game and them telling me," Mahomes said after the game. "Obviously an amazing accomplishment. It speaks to the organization I'm in. It speaks to the people I have around me, the coaches I have around me and the players. It takes everybody. I think just being able to execute and get to that milestone is awesome, but we have a lot more to do. We've had a great start to the season, and we want to keep building on that."
The milestone took Mahomes 103 games to achieve, breaking the NFL record for least amount of games needed to throw for 30,000 yards. Mahomes beat the previous record of 109 games, held by Matthew Stafford, by six games.
The achievement came on a 16-yard pass to DeAndre Hopkins in a game that improved the Chiefs record to 7-0. It is the first time in Mahomes' NFL career he has gone undefeated this deep into the season.
