WACO, Texas — Kim Mulkey was named the 2019 United States Marine Corps/WBCA NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced on March 26.
"The WBCA is proud to name Kim Mulkey the 2019 United States Marine Corps/WBCA NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year," WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew said. "Kim is a gifted and passionate teacher of the game as displayed by the excellence of her student-athletes. She was chosen by vote of her peers and is very deserving of the WBCA’s highest honor in the coaching profession."
In her 18th season as Baylor head coach, Mulkey's No. 1 seed Lady Bears are 35-1 and as they head to the Final Four.
The Bears are also leading the nation with a 25-game winning streak.
Since she took over, the program has seen a record 40-win season, nine 30-win seasons, 17 NCAA Tournament appearances, 10 Big 12 Championships and two NCAA Championships.
Baylor is seeking its third national championship under Mulkey this weekend. Tipoff against Oregon is set for 6 p.m. Central time Friday at Amalie Arena in Tampa.
