The CTX Sports Saga needs the community to keep empowering young Central Texas athletes

"We know how sports can change youth lives. We try to provide teams registration money for kids who couldn't quite afford that," said the organization's president.

KILLEEN, Texas — The school year is back in full swing, which means kids are back to playing sports.

On top of the burden that comes with figuring out scheduling for practices and games, parents also have to deal with the costs of having their kids play sports. A local non profit organization, The CTX Sports Saga, is working to help ease some of those challenges.

"We try to find kids that can't afford registration," said Will McMillan, president of The CTX Sports Saga. "We know how sports can change youth lives. We try to provide teams registration money for kids who couldn't quite afford that, and then we also provide transportation."

Since founding the organization five years ago, McMillan and his team have been going a step above to promote Central Texas' boys and girls, ages five to 13, in many sports including football, basketball, and cheer.

"We build community driven insights for people to come out and be able to live stream games for people, deployed families, and grandparents that aren't in the state," said McMillan. "We also give these kids an online profile to capture that moment and reshare."

"In certain areas the kids don't have anything to do and they find trouble," said David Burke, vice president of The CTX Sports Saga. "So instead of finding trouble, the athletics side, not just with the boys, but with the young ladies in cheer, and just any sport that keeps them involved, that's what we try to highlight."

McMillan said his organization also provides opportunities for kids who are not interested in play sports. They currently have open volunteer videographer, camera operator, and broadcaster positions.

In the near future, McMillan plans on partnering with local school districts and also hosting an all-star football game. However, in order to continue empowering the Central Texas youth, they need the help of the community.

"We're in desperate need of funding and we would love the support from communities to partner with non profits or anyone that's in the area for us," said McMillan.
