COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M baseball legend Mike Easley has died, according to an X post by the baseball team.
"Here. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of Mike Easley," the team posted.
Easley's son, also named Michael Easley, commented on the team's Instagram post: "here. i love you so much dad, and i will miss you always."
Support from the Aggies community poured in on social media with their traditional "roll call for the absent" by simply responding "here." At each Aggie Muster, when current and former students gather to honor and celebrate members of the Aggie family who have passed away in the past year, a speaker addresses the crowd to reflect on the importance of the Aggie Family. Then, the “Roll Call for the Absent” is read, naming local fallen Aggies. As each name is called, family members or friends present for that Aggie reply, “Here,” and a candle is lit in their memory.
Easley was a first baseman for the 1989 Texas A&M Baseball team that went 58-7, the best record in program history, and were Southwest Conference co-champions.
