'The putt heard 'round Waco tonight' | Fan wins $5,000 after sinking cross-court putt at Baylor basketball game

Could you have made this putt if you were given the chance?

WACO, Texas — If you had the opportunity to sink a putt across a basketball court for $5,000, do you think you'd be able to do it?

One lucky fan at a Baylor basketball game had the chance to make that 96-foot putt, and he nailed it.

The feat has already amassed tens of thousands of views on social media, and has even made its way onto ESPN. If the putt will find its way into the Top 10 Plays from that day is yet to be seen, however.

However, the even greater part of this story is that it's not the first time a long-distance putt has been made in the Ferrell Center. In 2020, Ky Carlson, a graduate student at Baylor at the time, sank the cross-court putt to become the first in history of the Mattson Financial Services putting contest to do so.

On Facebook, Carlson congratulated the fan that made the putt, saying "Congrats!!! Didn't know if I'd ever see it again. Can't believe mine was almost 4 years ago. So fun!"

The night was certainly one to remember for Baylor basketball fans, as both the men's and women's teams won their games, with the latter upsetting fourth ranked Utah and setting a record for student attendance at a women's basketball game.

The Bears' next challenge on the hardwood will be in a week when they head to the west coast to face off against Oregon State in Corvallis.
