WACO, Texas — NO. 42 TO THE RAFTERS!
In today’s Morning Playbook, Baylor is retiring Britney Griner’s number 42 jersey!
Griner, who currently plays for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, is the most decorated player in Baylor women’s basketball history. She led the Bears to a perfect 40 to 0 season, which ended in a National Title.
Her jersey retirement ceremony will take place on February 18 when Baylor hosts Texas Tech.
NEW MIDWAY HEAD COACH
In high school football news, Midway announced their new head coach.
Joseph Gillespie will take over the program after previously serving as the TCU defensive coordinator for two seasons.
Gillespie comes with 30 years of coaching experience to take over a program coming off a season with coaching changes and a district title.
SALADO ANNOUNCES NEW COACH
Meanwhile, Salado High is hiring Ricky Beaty as their new head coach.
Beaty, a former offensive coordinator for Georgetown, will replace Tom Wessterberg who is retiring this summer.
He looks to take the Eagles in a new direction, after they failed to win a single district game last season.
