Baylor baseball junior catcher Shea Langeliers out with hand injury

Baylor's All-American will miss "a few weeks."

WACO, Texas — Baylor baseball All-American catcher Shea  Langeliers won't be back behind the plate for a few weeks.

Baylor Athletics confirmed to KCEN Channel 6 sports director Nick Canizales that the junior catcher will a miss "a few weeks" after suffering a broken hamate bone. D1 Baseball's Kendall Rogers was the first to report.

It is a rare fracture when it comes to hand and wrist injuries the occurs in about 2 to 6 percent of all carpal fractures. For most people, the injury occurs due to a fall on an outstretched hand or direct blow to the palm.

Langeliers is currently the No. 3 prospect in the country, projected to get drafted in the top half of the first round in June. This season, the junior has started three games, batting .230 with three walks and two RBIs.

Last season, Langeliers earned All-American honors after setting career highs in home runs (11), RBIs (44), runs (49), doubles (18), walks (35) and a .994 fielding percentage.

Baylor will travel to San Marcos and face Texas State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
