TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple community went to Bold Republic Brewing Tuesday, July 2, to meet their home grown star, Kansas City Chiefs rookie tight end, Jared Wiley.
Hundreds of kids and adults received an autograph, a picture, and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to talk to the former Temple Wildcat.
"Just being able to be around the community once again, Wiley said. "Temple is a special place with a lot of special people. I just wanted to come here and give back as much as possible, and do whatever I could to show my appreciation for a city like this."
Wiley was selected by the Chiefs with the 131st pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft. He began his collegiate career with Texas in 2019, playing in 32 games with 12 starts. Wiley transferred to Texas Christian University in 2022, playing in the College Football Playoff national championship game against Georgia.
In Wiley's last season with the Horned Frogs, he recorded a career-best 47 receptions for a total of 527 yards, which earned him a First Team All-Big 12 selection.
Wiley was back in Temple after getting his first reps in training camp with the Chiefs, learning from three-time Super Bowl champs, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes.
"I mean it was blast. I love being up there, can't wait to get back there and just get to work and help them reach another Super Bowl next year," said Wiley.
The Chiefs begin their preseason with Wiley on the roster, against the Jacksonville Jaguars on august 10.
