Two Central Texas standouts nominated for weekly statewide award

Sidney Holland (Ellison) and KJ Zeigler (Copperas Cove) are up for DCTF's Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week honors.

TEMPLE, Texas — After a pair of monster performances, two Central Texas high school stars have been nominated for Dave Campbell's Texas Football's "Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week" award.

KJ Zeigler (Copperas Cove) and SIdney Holland (Ellison) came up clutch for their teams last week.

Zeigler, a sophomore, finished Friday's game against Killeen with 275 rushing yards and four touchdowns. That helped fuel the Bulldawgs to a 62-53 victory.

At the quarterback spot, Holland did it all for Ellison. The senior accounted for ten touchdowns (8 passing, 2 rushing) against Odessa High, throwing for 373 yards in the 69-28 victory over the Bronchos.

Zeigler and Holland are up against eight other athletes for the statewide award. The honor is solely determined based off a fan vote. You can cast your ballot here: Mr. Texas Football voting
