KILLEEN, Texas — District rivals met in 6 News' Game of the Week as Ellison beat Killeen 58-52 at Leo Buckley Stadium to improve to 1-1 on the season.

The pair of 0-1 teams met in this game looking to get their first win of the 2024-2025 season. Last week Killeen lost to Vista Ridge 31-21, while Ellison is coming off a 49-34 loss to Copperas Cove.

The game was all about offense, led by Ellison's Travaris Turner Smith and Killeen's Timothy Boatner. Both wide receivers had unforgettable performances.

In just the first half, Turner-Smith had four receiving touchdowns, all on deep-throws down the field. QB Sidney Holland was putting the ball on him perfectly every pass. The two were locked in all night in route to the victory.

Boatner had two touchdowns of his own in the first half, but a crucial holding penalty from the Kangaroos late in the second quarter called back a touchdown.

At the half Ellison led Killeen 30-24.

The Kangaroos answered quickly in the second half, taking a 31-30 lead following a T'Antrae Thomas touchdown.

Ellison came right back with a touchdown of their own and a two-point-conversion to take a 38-31 lead.

The two kept exchanging blows, but early in the fourth quarter Ellison took back the momentum after recovering a red-zone fumble up 52-45. Another Ellison touchdown increased the Eagle lead to 58-45 and put the game out of reach, cementing the Eagle win.

A late Killeen touchdown brought the game back to within six, but a failed onside kick attempt sealed the Kangaroo fate.

Killeen falls to 0-2 on the season and they'll host Lake Belton on a short week, playing Thursday, Sep. 12 as they try to get their first win.

Ellison will welcome in Shoemaker next Friday, Sep. 13 and will look to get over .500 for the first time this season.
