No. 13 Mary Hardin-Baylor falls to No. 6 Hardin Simmons

No. 6 Hardin Simmons dominated the first half to beat UMHB on homecoming.

BELTON, Texas — No. 6 ranked Hardin Simmons beat No. 13 Mary Hardin-Baylor 44-21 on Saturday in the Crusaders homecoming game.

The Cowboys scored 30 unanswered points in the first half to take an early lead, and they did not look back after that.

Head coach, Larry Harmon, said, "It's just frustrating that we'd come out in a game like this and kind of play the first half that we did."

The Crusaders offense struggled in the first half, throwing four interceptions. Back-up quarterback Jake Wright came into the game to take over for Isaac Phe. Wright went on throw for 226 total yards and helped the Crusaders score three touchdowns in the second half.

"Jake's the positive point of this thing," said Harmon. "He's been out with a tear in his arm and, you know, we lost our other quarterback in the scrimmage right before that. So, two of the three quarterbacks that got all the reps in camp. We didn't have him when week one started and, uh, we've been working Jake back in slow and I thought Jake did a great job today."

UMHB moves to 3-2 on the season and will have a chance to rematch against Hardin Simmons on November 9, 2024, at Shelton Stadium in Abilene, TX.

The Crusaders will need to get the win then in the double round robin slate in order for force a tie break.

UMHB now has a three-game road test. They will travel to Howard Payne next Saturday.
