FC Waco Adds Professional Experience to the Coaching Staff

WACO, Texas- FC Waco announced the hiring of Steve Cook, who will serve a dual role as the club’s Technical Director and Head Coach. Born in Swindon, England, Cook has both played and coached professionally around the world.

He played youth soccer at Southampton FC before signing a professional contract with Cheltenham Town FC of English Football League 1. Cook went on to play for numerous clubs in England, and finished his career in the Victorian region of the Australian National Premier League.

While still playing, Cook began his coaching education with Swindon Town, his boyhood club. He began his coaching career at Swindon, before moving back to Australia to coach at the youth level. He moved to the United States in 2012, where he has coached various youth teams in Southern California, and also for the Chicago Fire Academy in MLS. He has attained a level three coaching license through the English FA.

“He’s going to take us upward,” said Jarrod Barton, FC Waco Club President, “The best part is that he has played and coached in professional organizations, so I’m hoping he can bring that professional culture to the team.”

Cook will carry the title of Technical Director. The club has tasked him with managing the team and serving on the board of directors. As for the team, Cook says they can benefit from having an established style of play. “I think that the style of play should be obvious to every coach and player within the club,” said Cook, “I’d expect for us to be the most attractive brand of soccer in the area.”
