Fort Cavazos begins second phase of military housing development

This phase involves the demolition of 1950s-era housing in the Heritage Heights neighborhood, formerly known as Chaffee Village.

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — On Dec. 21, Cavalry Family Housing, a subsidiary of Lendlease, started the second phase of its military housing development project at Fort Cavazos.

This phase involves the demolition of 1950s-era housing in the Heritage Heights neighborhood, formerly known as Chaffee Village.

"The demolition of the next 300 homes is critical to free up space for the upcoming 580 junior enlisted homes," Chris Albus, Cavalry Housing project director said.

The new homes, will feature three bedrooms, two baths, open floor plans, gathering spaces, modern finishes, and increased storage. Amenities in the Heritage Heights neighborhood will include walking paths, community gardens, and a dog park.

According to Albus, the military community eagerly anticipates the construction of these modern homes, which promise to significantly enhance the living experience for military families.

"The feedback from families who have moved into the newly constructed homes has been overwhelmingly positive," Albus said. "We are building not just houses, but homes that will fortify the foundation of our military community."

Cavalry Family Housing previously completed the first section of the military housing in the Heritage Heights neighborhood, marking the first homes built on the installation since 2018.

This project is part of Lendlease's $420 million, five-year development plan for Cavalry Family Housing."
