BELTON, Texas — Belton Independent School District will have a new athletic director in the 2019-2020 school year.
Mike Morgan, who has held the position since January 2017, will be promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.
"I would like to extend my gratitude to Dr. Kincannon and her staff for giving me this opportunity," Morgan said. "I am looking forward to working extremely hard to help Belton ISD meet the needs of our students and families."
Before serving as BISD's athletic director, Morgan was the head football coach and athletic director at Gatesville from 2001-2006. In Belton, he was the Tigers' inside receivers coach, special teams coach, head JV football coach and head boys track coach.
From 1999-2000, he was also Gatesville's head softball coach.
"Mike has been a go-to person for many years," superintendent Susan Kincannon said in a statement. "I am excited that he will provide that same caliber of leadership in this new role for issues directly involving our students, including oversight of our safety and security department. As the district grows, so does our need to ensure strong leadership and customer service in this area."
According to the district, Morgan will coordinate attendance, health services, safety and security, student code of conduct, student disciplinary concerns, student hearings, and student transfers.
Morgan will begin his new role on July 1.
A district spokesperson said the search for a new athletic director is underway. Morgan was tabbed A.D. the same night Belton ISD promoted Sam Skidmore to head football coach, after Bob Shipley's retirement following the 2016 football season.
