MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Following a commanding victory over Colgate on Friday, the Baylor Bears faced a tough challenge against the Clemson Tigers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the FedEx Forum.
The Tigers came out strong, particularly from beyond the arc, shooting an impressive 54% from three-point range in the first half. Meanwhile, the Bears struggled to find their shooting rhythm, managing only 33% from three-point territory. Clemson's offensive dominance, led by Hunter Chase, who racked up 11 points in the first half, proved to be a significant factor in dictating the pace of the game from the outset.
Heading into the matchup, Baylor knew they would have to make defensive adjustments to contain Clemson's PJ Hall in the paint. However, it was the Tigers' offensive spike that ultimately dictated the flow of the game.
Adding to the challenge for Baylor were Clemson's two big men, both standing over 6'10", sizing up against Yves Missi and Josh Jianwuna.
Despite defensive effort, highlighted by Ja'Kobe Walter's hustle on the boards with four rebounds in the first half, Baylor struggled to generate consistent offense, especially compared to their performance in the opening round.
As the game entered the second half, Baylor managed to narrow score, keeping it within two points in the final minute. However, Clemson secured a hard-fought 72-64 victory.
The loss marks the end of Baylor's NCAA Tournament journey, while Clemson advances to the next round.
