6 Sports Friday Night Lights "Player of the Week": Trace Meadows

Meadows is a Senior Linebacker at A&M Consolidated High School and a Utah Tech commit.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — If you ask A&M Consolidated High School Senior Linebacker Trace Meadows, football is supposed to be fun!

"We've had our ups and downs but we've had a lot of success. We're starting to get into our groove. How bought in everybody is this year, how hard we work in the weight room and the field and we still have fun. You're supposed to have fun. We want to have fun but also work hard and be intense," said Meadows.

It's that spirit that makes a difference team-wide, says Head Coach Brandon Schmidt.

"He comes to practice every day with a positive attitude from a leadership standpoint. That demeanor, he wants to improve, he wants to take in new information and so that's really what we want from all of our kids," said Schmidt.

Meadows is a Utah Tech commit and plans to graduate early to get ready for the next chapter.

"They're a program on the rise and I'm excited to help them rise even further," said Meadows.

But, the football star could have gone a different route.

"Baseball was my first love. I didn't start playing football until 7th grade. I played baseball since I was really young. Baseball taught me how to work through failure and that journey of the grind that it takes for baseball, it's really helped me with my football," said Meadows.

Meadow's versatility has added value season after season.

"Unless somebody proves otherwise, I think he's the best football player in the district. (He's) a really good defensive player for us and so to have a guy like that who is able to do so much for us is a big deal," said Schmidt.

With his final game with the guys on the horizon, Meadows will cherish all the time they spent with the goal of doing the best they possibly can.

"It's been a wild ride. It's sad that it's over but I'm excited for the next journey," said Meadows.
