TEXAS, USA — Viewing this year's total solar eclipse is something you won't want to miss!
Your first thought may be to snap a quick picture to capture the experience, but is this safe? It can be! That's only if you have the proper materials.
Here's your guide to safely viewing the solar eclipse with your phone
Materials needed:
- Eclipse glasses, make sure they are up to the ISO standard of 12312-2 and are on the American Astronomical Society's approved list.
- Tape
- Scissors
Steps:
Grab your pair of solar eclipse glasses and cut out one of the filters. Make sure you don't bend or scratch the lens.
After you cut out the filter, tape it on the back of your phone. Make sure it's completely covering the camera.
Once your tape is in place and your filter is secure, you should be good to go!
If this is too complicated, you can also hold up your solar eclipse glasses behind your lens, just be careful not to look at the sun when you do.
Experts say just like protecting our eyes during the solar eclipse, we must protect our camera lenses as well.
