TEMPLE, Texas — A total solar eclipse will pass over the United States on April 8, plunging many places, including Central Texas, into darkness for several minutes as the moon passes between the Earth and the sun.
To help prepare students for the once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon, LEGO Education has created a line of activities for children to learn about the eclipse.
The Eclipse Collection was created by teachers, for teachers, said LEGO Education, and features downloadable activities that can be adapted to different grades and subjects.
Using LEGO bricks, LEGO Education sets or classroom materials, students can participate in activities like designing a mobile observatory, creating a pinhole projector, learning how light casts shadows like the moon will during the eclipse and building models of the sun and moon.

LEGO Education says real-world connections like the solar eclipse can make learning "more relevant, memorable and engaging for everyone".
LEGO Education also offers lessons on subjects like using light and sound to communicate, graphing the amount of light and darkness in a month and designing a concept for a movable light.
