KILLEEN, Texas — The City of Killeen will be hosting a Community Townhall ahead of the 2024 Solar Eclipse on Monday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.
The meeting will be held at City Hall and attendees will have an opportunity to ask any questions and learn information about the City's plans for the once in a lifetime event.
The City says it is expecting its population of 160,000 to double during the weekend leading up to and the day of the solar eclipse, which is Monday, April 8, 2024.
Killeen happens to be in the direct path of totality, meaning the sky will darken as the sun gets fully covered for at least four minutes.
The City says 2,500 rooms in 40 hotels have been sold out around the city and this event is a great opportunity for local business to attract visitors and increase revenue.
Also at the townhall will be Central Texas College and the Mayborn Science Theater/Planetarium, who the City of Killeen has partnered with to host several activities during the Solar Eclipse.
The City also says it has 23 Parks and residents/business are welcome to get permits to host watch parties.
