TEMPLE, Texas — In 10 days, the city of Temple has seen three different rock-throwing cases. On March 9, Keila Flores was killed when a rock crashed through the windshield while the car she was in went under a railroad bridge in Temple.
Three days later, a rock hit a car at I-35 and Nugent. Monday, police said a person driving a black Dodge Charger threw a brick at a tow truck.
KCEN Channel 6 contacted the Temple Police Department multiple times Tuesday to try to find out what progress was made, if any, on the cases. Police once again said it's handling the cases as unrelated.
"These incidents are being treated as separate cases at this time. Detectives are currently following leads," spokeswoman Ellen Morton said in an email. "If there are any additional details, we will release them at that time."
Channel 6 found out Tuesday that Temple police picked up surveillance video from Carpenter, the business located next to the railroad bridge where the first rock was thrown. The company said it could not discuss what was on the video, and the police would not confirm they had it.
Police did clarify a location for the last incident.
"The victim, driving a tow truck, was traveling eastbound when his windshield was hit by a brick from a black dodge charger traveling westbound," Morton said.
Morton said it happened in the 22000 block of Southwest H K Dodgen Loop. Police did not have any additional information to identify the vehicle or driver.
"We are still urging anyone with information to contact Temple PD, or Bell County Crime Stoppers," Morton wrote, "Be vigilant. If you see someone on an overpass be cautious of the situation. If you see anything suspicious, again, contact Temple PD."
