Little River fire trucks returning to department premises, judge rules

The judge ruled the trucks needed to return to the Little River fire department premises. They will eventually be used by the new department.

SALADO, Texas — The ownership of the fire trucks, formerly used by the Little River Volunteer Fire Department, was decided after a short property hearing Tuesday.

Justice of the Peace Cliff Coleman ruled that the Bell County Sheriff's office return the trucks to the department premises.

The volunteer department all resigned in late June.

Little River-Academy Mayor Drew Lanham said that when he got the phone call, he was also made aware that volunteer firefighters were gutting the city of all the fire equipment and trucks and giving it to the Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department.

The BVFD was under the impression the equipment was being donated.

Lanham reported the trucks stolen on the 27th. According to Bell County Sheriff Eddy Lange, the trucks were voluntarily turned over to his department.

Without a functioning department, Little River-Academy is depending on neighboring departments for assistance.
